13 Iraqis wounded in Baghdad attacks

A total of 13 people were wounded in separate bomb and gunfire attacks in Baghdad on Wednesday, an Interior Ministry source said.

Two roadside bombs successively detonated near a police patrol in Baghdad's northern neighborhood of al-Kasrah, wounding 10 people, including two policemen, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The blasts damaged a police vehicle and several nearby civilian cars, shops and buildings, the source said.

In a separate incident, two people wounded when a mortar round landed on their house in Baghdad's central district of Karrada, near the Green Zone which located just across the Tigris River away from the site of the attack, he said.

The Green Zone, which houses some of the Iraqi government offices and U.S. embassy, has been frequently targeted by insurgents' mortar and rocket attacks. The roughly 10 square km zone is located on the west bank of the Tigris River which bisects the Iraqi capital.

The attack apparently missed the Green Zone and hit the house in the nearby Karrada instead, the source added.

Also in the capital, an Iraqi judge was wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire from their silenced guns on his car while driving near the Adan square at the edge of the Shiite holy neighborhood of Kadhmiyah in northern Baghdad, the source said.

Violence and some high-profile attacks are still common in Iraqi cities as security deteriorated, causing a setback to the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normalcy in the country about five months after Iraq held parliamentary elections on March 7.
