A new restaurant in Harbin opened inside some old train carriages on Sept 22, giving food lovers a quirky new environment to enjoy beer and barbecued food.

The restaurant consists of two abandoned train carriages, offering high-quality food and beer brewed onsite.

Decorated in traditional Russian style, with the remnants of facilities from the old train carriages, the restaurant is keeping alive the simplicity of old-fashioned trains and it can seat up to 160 people at a time.

With the rapid development of high-speed trains, old-style trains were gradually withdrawn from service and turning abandoned carriages into a restaurant provides a place for Harbin residents to mark their local culture and history, said Cong Jusen, manager of Harbin railway bureau.

Harbin has a long history of train operations dating back to 1896, with continuous development over a 129-year period. Harbin is known for the contribution trains have made to its history.
