Zhejiang professor stands 3 hours to present 'last lecture'
A four-minute video became popular in Wechat Moments recently, showing an 84-year-old professor standing for three hours to present his last lecture at Zhejiang University on Nov 10.
The professor, Jiang Kezhu, came up with the idea of giving a final lecture discussing design thinking in October to share his rich experiences in industrial design with students.
The lecture was designed for two hours, but ended up lasting three due to the rich content. It attracted over 150 undergraduate and graduate students from different departments.
Professor Jiang, 84 years old, retired from the School of Mechanical Engineering of Zhejiang University in 1994 and was reemployed to teach the course Industrial Design Methodology until 2008.
Jiang has rich experience in both teaching and practice. He often stresses the importance of practice and believes the purpose of design is for production.
"The old professors should pass down their knowledge to later generations to help them avoid making the same mistakes we did," Jiang said. "I want to travel to different places and teach what I've learned to the young people, like Confucius.
"I am a strict teacher in some students' eyes. But as long as there are students who like my class, I will keep teaching."
