New expressway to support regional integration
A new expressway circling Beijing and linking the capital with cities in neighboring Hebei province will be put into use in June, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.
The expressway will ease the pressure trucks put on Beijing’s sixth ring road, Ding Xihong, general manager of the road’s builder, was quoted as saying in a report by China Central Television recently.
The report said the expressway will also strengthen connections between Beijing’s Tongzhou district — the subcenter of the capital — and Beijing’s new airport in Daxing district, which is expected to be put into operation in 2019.
The new ring road will improve the transportation network of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, thus promoting the integrated development of the region, the report said.
The expressway links 13 major cities and regions around Beijing, 11 of which are in Hebei, including Tangshan, Langfang, Yanjiao and Chongli.
Only 90 kilometers of the expressway goes through Beijing, while the remaining 850 km runs through Hebei, according to media reports.
