Chinese shuttler He into Asian Championship quarters, to face top seed Tai
WUHAN -- 21-year-old home star He Bingjiao cruised past Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand 21-10, 21-12 here on Thursday, moving into the badminton Asian Championships quarterfinal.
Next up for He is top-seeded Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei, who beat Kim Hyo-min of South Korea to clinch a last eight berth.
"I am looking forward to the game against Tai. Last time we played to the third game, although I lost, this time I hope I can get onto the court with confidence," she said.
The last time He went up against Tai was in the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters in January, where she was defeated by the world No 1 in a tough three-game clash 19-21, 21-15, 21-15.
In other women's singles matches, sixth-seeded Chen Yufei knocked out Nitchaon Jindapol of Thailand 21-19, 21-14 to advance. But other two home stars, Chen Xiaoxin and Gao Fangjie lost to third-seeded Pusarla V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, respectively, both from India.
In the women's doubles, Du Yue and Li Yinhui outclassed Malaysian pair Soong Fie-cho and Tee Jing-yi 21-18, 21-10 to become the only Chinese players moving into the last eight. Top seeds Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan suffered a shock defeat by Della Destiara Haris/Rizki Amelia Pradipta of Indonesia 21-16, 21-14.
