新形態就業(xīnxíngtài jiùyè): New forms of employment

New forms of employment are those jobs that have appeared due to the development of internet technology and consumption upgrading.

The internet directly links supply and demand, leading to new forms of employment such as car-hailing drivers and self-employed online retailers.

The development of e-commerce and new retail has not only created new job opportunities but also changed the employment pattern. Different from the traditional employment pattern, in the internet era, many people are self-employed or do part time jobs based on internet-enabled services.

The new forms of employment created by the internet are creating many new jobs. One domestic e-commerce platform created more than 36 million job opportunities in 2017. As Premier Li Keqiang noted in this year's Government Work Report, we should take advantage of the government's Internet Plus strategy for smart industry to develop new forms of employment.

New training that matches the needs of new technologies and suits new form of industry is required under the new circumstances. Meanwhile, new laws, regulations and social security are also required, in order to better serve the new employment forms such as those created by online retail.
