Xi'an live theater show retraces Silk Road legend

The live theater show Legend of the Camel Bell has wowed audiences with its stunning stage effects and a dynamic representation of the Silk Road expedition during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) in ancient China.

From the Tang capital city of Chang'an (now known as Xi'an in Northwest China's Shaanxi province) to ancient Rome, it tells the story of a group of young men heading toward unknown adventure and great fortunes along the Silk Road.

Besides massive props and a large-scale acting crew, Legend of the Camel Bell uses 20 camels and 30 wolves onstage to recreate the authentic environment of the desert and the bitter wilderness along this historical route.

The newly built round theater in Xi'an, big enough for 3,000 people, has a moveable auditorium at the center that can rotate a full 360 degrees. This design fits right in with Legend of the Camel Bell, making an uninterrupted live show possible. Unlike conventional theaters, where settings are changed during intervals, this venue only needs to turn the auditorium to a new backdrop.

The show, which debuted March 31, has attracted locals and tourists from around the world and garnered public praise.
