Research on medicine affects the well-being of every person on earth.

As the center of China's technology innovation, Zhongguancun Science Park, or Z-Park, is shouldering the responsibility of advancing the life-or-death science.

The Global Health Drug Discovery Institute (GHDDI), or Gates Center, co-founded by Tsinghua University, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the municipal government of Beijing, has moved into Zhongguancun Dongsheng International Science Park, local media reported on Aug 1.

Since its establishment in 2016, the center has been operating as an independent, innovative and non-profit institute with a strong passion for settling global health concerns and multiple R&D capabilities in biomedical fields.

Funded and guided by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the institute has already assembled an elite research team and joined hands with several strong strategic partners, such as the California Institute for Biomedical Research.

In addition, it has forged a flexible structure with a modular research platform covering a wide spectrum of domains, including but not limited to medicinal chemistry, structural biology and rational drug design.

Located in Z-Park, a powerhouse of Beijing's economy, the institute will receive full support from the municipal government and is expected to be a textbook example for the capital's medicine industry.
