World's longest cross-sea bridge plans to ease travel procedures

The checkpoint of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in Zhuhai special economic zone in Guangdong province has granted a total of 226 visas upon arrival to foreigners and another 304 exit and entry travel documents to Hong Kong and Macao residents since it was put into service in late October.

The landing visa service of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has played a role in promoting exchanges and cooperation between Guangdong, the window of the country's reform and opening-up, and the rest of the world and better served the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, said Sun Taiping, deputy director general of Guangdong Provincial Department of Public Security.

Sun promised to further simplify the exit and entry procedures to foreigners and residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in the months to come.

Wu Bin, a senior traffic police officer, said both Guangdong and Hong Kong are considering to issue more license plates to the vehicles from Hong Kong to operate on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Bridge and allow the vehicles which are now operating between Hong Kong and the mainland via other land ports in Guangdong province to use the Hong Kong-Zhuhai Bridge in the coming months.

"Both sides are now negotiating for increasing the number of vehicles that can operate on the bridge to meet the growing demand, but we have yet reached any agreement," he said.

Currently Guangdong province has issued a total of 11,000 license plates to vehicles from Hong Kong to operate between Guangdong and Hong Kong through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, he added.
