Chengdu greenway's floral beauty draws spring tourists

In April 2017, the city proposed building the Tianfu Greenway with high standards, turning it into a beautiful and habitable park city with the support of the greenway. 

The Tianfu Greenway, which consists of 1,920-kilometer regional greenways, 5,380-kilometer urban greenways and 9,630-kilometer community greenways, will make it possible for residents to enjoy at least one kilometer of greenway out of every square kilometer of land in Chengdu, said Yang Xiao, vice president of Chengdu Planning and Design Research Institute.

Once the Tianfu Greenway is completed, residents will have access to a greenway if they go out and walk for five minutes, he said.

By the end of last year, 2,607 kilometers of the Tianfu Greenway had been completed and the system has received a warm welcome from residents for leisure activities.

Hu Min, a young resident of Chengdu, used to complain about environmental degradation. But the construction of Tianfu Square turned out to be a delight for him as the city is getting better.

"It reminds me of the two famous lines from a poem by Du Fu in the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). Titled Rain on a Spring Night, the poem says that dawn sees saturated reds, and the town's heavy with blooms," he said.

People walking along different parts of the Tianfu Greenway in Chengdu share his happiness at this time of year.

Hikers in the Baitou town section of the greenway in Chongzhou, a city under Chengdu's administration, are impressed by a vast expanse of rapeseed blossoms.

Visitors to the Gexianshan section of the greenway in Pengzhou, another city under Chengdu's administration, saw a boundless stretch of golden rapeseed, white plum, pink peach and snow-white pear blossoms.
