East China's Jiangxi has rolled out a new incentive to encourage colleges and universities in the province to set up virtual reality majors, offering a one-off reward of up to 2 million yuan ($284,000), according to Beijing News.
The incentive is part of the provincial government's measures to further advance development of VR.
The measures also support higher institutions and platforms for innovation, such as laboratories, to purchase VR devices for teaching and scientific research. Jiangxi will fund 20 percent of the annual procurement spend on such equipment, up to 1 million yuan.
The province also encourages vocational colleges, technical schools and training institutions to carry out employment-oriented VR talent development.
