JingchuanWangmu Palace is China's largest temple in honor of West Wangmu, the Queen Mother of the West. The splendid east-facing palace hall was reconstructed in the 1990s with contributions from devotees from home and abroad.
According to the Shi (historical records) section of Si Ku Quan Shu (Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature), the Wangmu Palace was first constructed in 110 B.C. during the reign of Emperor Wu in the Western Han Dynasty, which is consistent with the Records of Good Results dating back to the Qing Dynasty now housed in Jiangchuan Museum.
Similar records can also be found in inscriptions on Tao Gu Tablet from the Song Dynasty and Peng Ze Tablet from the Ming Dynasty. On every March 20 of the lunar calendar, a temple fair for Wangmu Palace is hosted. On the peak day, over 100,000 people visit the fair. In 1999, the Wangmu Palace was recognized as a "National Key Folk Culture Scenic Site" and "Famous Cultural City of West Wangmu in China" by the International Asian Folklore Society and the China Folklore Society.
