Joint command center for NE China tiger, leopard protection established

CHANGCHUN - A command center for the conservation of Siberian tigers and Amur leopards was co-established by a research institution and the forest police from the city of Hunchun, Northeast China's Jilin province.

Heads of the center for the monitoring and research of Northeast China tigers and leopards and the Hunchun public security bureau for forestry signed an agreement to jointly ensure scientific research, protect the safety of equipment, and crack down on illegal activities in the forest.

Hunchun is in the core area of the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park and is connected to the habitat for wild Siberian tigers in Russia. At least 27 Siberian tigers and 42 Amur leopards were monitored in the Hunchun forest in recent years.

"The two sides will take full advantage of the platform to strengthen conservation and research, creating a better environment for the animals," said Ge Jianping, director of the research institution.
