1st patients discharged from Wuhan's Huoshenshan Hospital

The first batch of seven patients infected with novel coronavirus pneumonia was discharged after careful treatment from Huoshenshan Hospital, a makeshift hospital built to contain the epidemic in Wuhan, on Thursday afternoon.

The vital signs and mental conditions of the patients have greatly improved, according to Xinhua News Agency. They could walk on their own without assistance, and among them, a 66-year-old patient was seen bowing to the medical workers seeing them off to express gratitude.

The patients have been sent to their homes.

Medical workers in Huoshenshan Hospital have explored tailored therapy to every patient to ensure scientific, efficient and accurate treatment, said Zhang Sibing, president of the hospital.

Zhang said that nutrition therapy, psychological counseling, and rehabilitation training also were involved in the treatment.

"The release of the first batch is encouraging to all medical workers in our hospital. We will step further to summarize effective treatments and measures to cure more patients," Yuan Hua, commissar of the hospital, told Xinhua News Agency.

Huoshenshan Hospital, which was built in 10 days in the outbreak epicenter Wuhan with 1,000 beds, started to receive patients on Feb 3 and has treated more than 1,000 patients as of Wednesday. The hospital is run by medical staff from the army.
