Mainland reports 1 new COVID-19 case, imported

One new confirmed coronavirus infection, which is an imported case from overseas, was reported on the Chinese mainland as of Friday midnight, according to the National Health Commission.

The case, reported by Tianjin, takes the number of imported infections to 1,681 with no deaths. Among them, 1,505 have been cured and discharged from the hospital.

Shanghai detected two additional suspected cases on Friday, which were both imported, bringing the total existing number of such cases to eight, it said.

As of Friday, the tally of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland reached 82,887, with 78,046 cured. Of the 736,372 people who have been traced as close contacts with the infected, 5,859 are still under medical observation.

Currently 208 cases are hospitalized. The total cases in severe condition decreased by three to 15.

On Friday, 53 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 670 people were freed from medical observation, it added.

Fifteen new asymptomatic cases were reported on the Chinese mainland on Friday. A total of 836 such cases, including 63 imported from overseas, are still under medical observation, according to the commission.

By the end of Friday, the confirmed infections in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan added up to 1,529, including four deaths among 1,044 cases in Hong Kong and six deaths among 440 cases in Taiwan, it said.
