Cat 'curators' attract visitors to library at Tianjin Tower

Seven cats have become library "curators" at Tianjin Tower, an appointment that has not only made the library a big tourist attraction, but has also made it famous online.

"On Aug 24, the cats will officially assume their duties at the library that houses thousands of books," said Wang Yan, vice-general manager of Tianjin Tower.

The library, called Western Shore Book House, has drawn attention as the highest library in Tianjin — 257 meters above the ground. It opened on Jan 18 but had to close down because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Now it's opening again as a key part of Tianjin's "Fragrance of Books" project, which was launched by the city's publicity department to encourage people to read more.

The ticket price of the library is 80 yuan per person, with children and those aged 60 and above enjoying discounts.

When readers feel tired, they can enjoy the scenery as the library overlooks the whole city. The library also has coffee facilities.

Tianjin Tower, which rises 415.2 meters, is a landmark in Tianjin that provides a panoramic view. It remains one of the world's few towers built over a lake.
