The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's Guangzhou campus is designed to complement the Hong Kong campus, not to be a scaled-down version of it, Wei Shyy, president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, told China Daily on Tuesday. The degree programs at the Guangzhou campus will all be cross-discipline to fit in with scientific-frontier topics involving multiple fields, he said.
Shyy also said the Guangzhou campus is one of the crucial elements in the university's foray into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
