Deputy calls for boost to new energy sector in Ningde, Fujian

A deputy to the 13th National People's Congress suggested stepping up the development of the new energy industry to make Ningde's due contribution to the national strategy of carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality.

Guo Xiwen, secretary of the Communist Party of China Ningde Municipal Committee in Fujian province, said realizing those goals would need coordinated efforts from multiple fields including energy, technology, industries and policies.

Relevant data shows that 90 percent of China's carbon dioxide emissions are generated by three sectors: electric power, transportation and industry.

Guo pointed out that the trend is for renewable energy power to replace fossil energy, especially with electric power.

Ningde is the largest lithium new energy and industry base in the world. It is also a leading national base for building up the new energy auto industry and a key model for clean energy.

Based on these advantages, Guo said, the city is committed to providing a package of solutions which not only can produce, store and supply clean energy, but also realize electrification in many fields such as transportation and infrastructure.

He claimed that Ningde would focus on building "four bases", namely an important clean energy base along the southeast coast, the world's largest and most advanced energy storage industrial base, a demonstration base for integrated photoelectric storage, and an exemplary base for electrified applications.

Fujian province is a major clean energy province with cutting-edge technologies in the field. It has a number of resources in advanced scientific research as well as innovation platforms.

Therefore, Guo suggested that the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology support Fujian province to integrate various strengths and establish a national laboratory for clean energy and energy storage.
