MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – In extreme conditions of 2020 China successfully faced challenges and confidently reached the track of restoration and recovery. It became the only major power, which economy retained positive dynamics. First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov made the statement during the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition, which opened in Minsk on 19 March to highlight China's accomplishments in the fight against poverty, BelTA has learned.
Nikolai Snopkov said: “2020 was full of challenges for every country: the pandemic, natural calamities, an economic crisis, the disruption of international supply chains, the closure of borders, and the lockdown. In these extreme conditions China managed to face the challenges and confidently reach a recovery trajectory. China became the only one of the world's largest economies to secure positive dynamics of economic growth (3.2% GDP growth). We admire the wisdom, unity, diligence, and discipline of the Chinese people.”
The official pointed out that China President Xi Jinping had set the goal of beating absolute poverty. China totally exterminated poverty in 2020. “No doubt the role of the Communist Party of China led by Xi Jinping is important in it. China's experience of fighting poverty is precious not only at the national scale but the international one, too. According to the World Bank, China accounts for three fourths of the global reduction of poverty,” Nikolai Snopkov said. “Two weeks ago during the opening ceremony of the fourth session of the National People's Congress Prime Minister Li Keqiang presented a report on the government's work. The main priorities of this work include efforts to ensure population employment. Employment underpins economic growth and determines the quality growth of the population's prosperity in addition to the development of education, healthcare, and innovations. China confidently reaches the goals of building a medium-income society.”
Presented by the Chinese embassy, the photo exhibition reflects the history of China's successes in fighting poverty. A documentary was also screened during the event. It focused on the complicated fight against poverty in China and the country's great accomplishments on this way.
