Public welfare activity sheds light on ICU work

Nutrition company Nutricia (Wuxi) Co Ltd sponsored a public welfare activity in Beijing, encouraging medical professionals to record critical moments in intensive care units to raise public awareness.

The activity, launched by The Newspaper for China's Physicians, collects 100 photos capturing critical moments in China's ICUs, such as medical professionals saving and protecting lives, and sharing the images with the public.

Zhang Yanping, executive deputy head of The Newspaper for China's Physicians, said: "Medical professionals in hospital ICUs step out fearlessly at critical moments. The public welfare activity aims to encourage them to record these moments, so more people are able to witness the miracle of life."

Zhu Zhixiang, director of the adult nutrition department of Nutricia, said: "Nutricia is dedicated to providing professional nutrition products and nutrition-related clinical solutions to Chinese consumers and medical professionals. It is hoped through this event, the work, study and life of ICU staff members can be displayed in multiple dimensions, the public's understanding towards the staff members can be aroused, and this kind of humanistic care can be promoted to society as a whole."

Compared with normal patients, ICU patients' vital signs are unstable, their disease condition changes rapidly, and the development of the condition may be life-threatening at any time. Therefore, ICU medical professionals must make correct decisions and determine treatment measures within a short period of time, and they are under tremendous pressure both physically and mentally.

"It is hoped this public welfare event can uncover the mystery of intensive care, promote understanding and communication between medical professionals and patients, and help the public know us better. This is beneficial to creating a harmonious society and a Healthy China," said Du Bin, deputy head of Peking Union Medical College Hospital.
