Qualcomm expanding cooperation with Chinese partners

US chip heavyweight Qualcomm Inc will expand and deepen cooperation with Chinese partners, as it eyes big opportunities in 5G, artificial intelligence, internet of things and other technologies, a senior company executive said.

The comments came as Qualcomm is teaming up with local partners to showcase a string of cutting-edge solutions and products at the ongoing fourth China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

Frank Meng, chairman of Qualcomm China, said China's efforts to pursue higher-level opening-up will help create a more open and inclusive business environment, and its willingness to share development opportunities with the world will also boost innovative international cooperation.

Such moves have encouraged Qualcomm to step up investment in China and deepen cooperation with local partners, Meng said.

According to him, Qualcomm will further expand cooperation with Chinese partners to empower smart terminals, industrial internet, smart transportation, smart cities and many other industries, as part of its broader push to help promote the transformation and high-quality development of the digital economy.

At the fourth CIIE, Qualcomm is showcasing a string of solutions and products with partners. For instance, at the company's booth, an orange scooter with automatic driving and remote control features is attracting attention. It is developed by Segway-Ninebot, a Chinese tech company well-known for its self-balancing scooter. The scooter, equipped with Qualcomm's chips, supports auto-dock return for charging and has a fisheye camera to capture a full view of the surroundings, enabling click-and-go navigation for short travel.
