China's top legislature criticizes Uygur act

China's top legislature expressed resolute opposition to the United States signing the so-called Uygur Forced Labor Prevention Act into law.

The US act fabricates the so-called forced labor issue in China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and grossly interferes in China's internal affairs under the pretext of human rights, a statement provided by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, said on Friday.

If the US insists on going its own way, China will take resolute and strong countermeasures, according to the statement.

China's Constitution grants people with the labor rights and obligations, while a number of other laws, including the Criminal Law and the Labor Law, also provide strong legal supports for protecting people's labor rights and preventing forced labor, it said.

While abiding by labor-related global conventions and treaties, China resolutely prevents and punishes all violations and crimes in labor-related fields, it said.

Xinjiang's labor and employment policies and practices comply with the Constitution and international labor and human rights standards, it said, adding there is no such thing as "forced labor" in the region.

Some US politicians disregard the truth and facts and use the "forced labor" issue as an excuse to suppress Xinjiang's enterprises, which fully exposes their sinister intention of using Xinjiang against China and contain China's development, it said.

It added that such intention will be unpopular and never succeed.
