Chinese firm ventures into Kenya's green energy sector

CHINT Group, a Chinese smart energy solution provider, announced the official opening of its branch in Kenya on Tuesday, diving into the promising green energy sector in the country. The multi-billion company opened its offices to serve the East African region.

Speaking in Nairobi during the launch, Nicholas Kiminda, the general manager at the Kenya Power and Lighting Company, said CHINT has been instrumental in the company's steady transition toward green energy.

"I wish to underscore our relationship with CHINT Electric, which has spanned over eight years and over that time we have been happy to have you as our suppliers. As we upgraded 15 of our sub-stations to make them reliable to our customers, CHINT Electric was at hand as a reliable partner," Kiminda said.

"Going forward we expect increased knowledge transfer for our maintenance staff. We also look forward to learn from your established knowledge in smart grids, flexibility automations and emerging scalable renewable energy," he added.

Zhang Yuansheng, CHINT Electric's country director for Kenya, said the company has grown from humble beginnings in China into a global powerhouse in providing smart energy solutions.

"We hope to provide the Kenyan market with a dynamic package of energy solutions for public institutions, industrial commercial users and end users, by building a regional smart energy operation ecosphere," Zhang said.
