Fit for a prince

In Taizicheng of Chongli district in Zhangjiakou city, North China's Hebei province, many residents say the name of their village, "city of the crown prince", stems from the local belief that a member of the imperial family was once stationed in the area.
In the 1970s, an archaeological find seemed to justify their rich heritage－researchers arrived in Taizicheng and identified an ancient site dating to the Liao (916-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties.
Since the site is located in the Chongli competition area of the ongoing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, an important archaeological excavation was started in 2017 and completed in 2020, so as to ensure the smooth construction of Zhangjiakou Olympic Village.
On Dec 31, an exhibition displaying the results of the excavation was unveiled at the Taizicheng site exhibition hall in Chongli. Organizers of the displays, which form a crucial showcase of Beijing Olympic culture and endeavor, include the National Cultural Heritage Administration, the Hebei provincial government and Art Exhibitions China.
