Celebrate Lantern Festival with floral themed activities

In traditional Chinese culture, literati always express their aspirations and interests using floral metaphors. Inspired by this custom, Yongyuan Park located at Dongcheng district of Beijing has organized a variety of recreational events such as embroidery workshop, flower arrangement, poetry reading and also lantern exhibition.

On the Festive Lantern Square, there are 200 paper lanterns with riddles attached on each of them. Visitors can walk down the park and experience many festive routines of how people celebrate the festival in ancient times.

A very unique part of the celebration, called feihualing – an ancient poetry citing game, attracts many primary and secondary school students to enjoy the charm of ancient poems.

The Lantern Festival was included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008. As part of the Chinese Lunar New Year, the Lantern Festival is a festival for people to hope for good luck. On this day, people go out to visit the parade of lanterns, cultural performances and other activities to share happiness at the start of the New Year.
