With drums and gongs, folk art gets a lift
"A gong in the left hand, a drum in the right. Come and sing songs, with the gong and drum in both hands."
Many people from across China, especially the elderly, have heard these words but might know much about the Fengyang flower-drum dance, a traditional folk art that originated in Fengyang county of Anhui province.
Zhang Cong, 39, had known nothing more than the words until 2008, when she gradated from college and became a teacher at Fengyang's Anhui Science and Technology University.
She has made great efforts with the students' Flower-drum Art Troupe at the university to better carry on the old intangible cultural heritage.
