Tariff cuts will help economic woes: Experts

Tariff cuts on Chinese products will help the United States tame its record-high inflation, and improvement in the economic and trade relations of the world's two largest economies will also benefit the world, government officials and experts said on Wednesday.

They made the remarks as the US is reportedly considering changes to its tariffs on China.

Zhou Mi, a senior researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation in Beijing, said China has been helping stabilize supplies of key products such as food, clothes and electronics for people around the world over the years, including in the US.

"Such contributions to maintaining the stability of world industrial and supply chains are increasingly important to help curb inflation under current circumstances, especially as China is expected to play a bigger role in world trade," he said.

When answering media inquiries, Wang Wenbin, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, said at a regular media conference on Wednesday that Sino-US economic and trade cooperation is mutually beneficial and trade disputes hurt everyone.

"As the world economy faces high-level inflation, removal of all additional tariffs on China will benefit the two countries and the world, and is in the interests of enterprises and consumers," he said.
