China, Germany agree to deepen bilateral cooperation

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China stands ready to work with Germany to sum up experiences and map out the bilateral cooperation for the next 50 years to inject new impetus into the development of bilateral relations.

He made the remarks on Friday when holding talks with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Bali, Indonesia.

The year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Germany. Wang said the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries has yield fruitful results.

Baerbock noted that Germany highly valued its relations with China and looked forward to taking the anniversary as an opportunity to deepen bilateral comprehensive cooperation.

She said Germany stands ready to make preparations for the next round of inter-governmental consultations between the two sides.

Germany would like to conduct dialogue on rule of law, democracy and human rights with China and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in climate change, green development and emission reduction, she added.

She also hoped China, being a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, could play an important role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In response, Wang said it was natural for China and Germany to have different ideas on human rights as the two countries differed in social systems, development stages, and historical and cultural backgrounds.

It was a huge contribution to human civilization for the Communist Party of China to have led 1.4 billion Chinese people out of extreme poverty and embarked on a journey to common prosperity, he added.

He vowed China would continue to push forward the development of human rights and is willing to have friendly exchanges with countries on the basis of mutual respect.

On the Ukraine crisis, Wang said all participants at the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting called for a ceasefire and peace.

Though the country was not a party involved in the issue, Wang said China always adhered to facilitating dialogue for peace and encouraging relevant parties to negotiate for a solution. He added China would continue to play a constructive role in the matter.
