Geely's London cab maker to produce vehicles for wider market

London Electric Vehicle Company, owned by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, is planning to expand its lineup of taxies and deliver smart, green mobility solutions to more people.

This move constitutes part of its new strategy that will see LEVC become a leading zero-carbon mobility technology company in the coming decade, said the carmaker on Thursday.

LEVC CEO Alex Nan said more details about the new strategy will be revealed in the first quarter of 2023. He expected the company's sales in 2023 to grow 20 percent year-on-year.

Geely purchased London Taxi Company in 2013, which changed its name into London Electric Vehicle Company in 2017.

The company has manufactured the iconic London taxies for more than 70 years. It launched the electric TX model in 2018 and the model's sales have reached 9,000 units so far.

LEVC said those vehicles have traveled more than 800 million kilometers and preventing 152,000 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere.

Currently the TX vehicles account for 82 percent of London's taxi market, said the carmaker. It said it will continue to help the British capital build a clean, green EV black cab fleet.

"We will build on LEVC's unrivalled heritage and grow beyond high-end taxi manufacturing, delivering smart, green, safe and accessible mobility to more customers than ever before," said Nan.
