Sanya sees tourism boom during 'golden week'

During the Mid-Autumn and National Day holiday, the tropical coastal resort city of Sanya became a popular choice for tourists, with crowds of visitors flocking to the city.

From Sept 28 to Oct 5, Sanya's tourist attractions and rural tourism sites received 859,700 visitors, a 691-percent increase year on year.

The booming tourism industry has boosted sectors such as shopping, accommodation, and dining, allowing more potential for consumption.

According to statistics from Sanya Customs, during the holidays from Sept 29 to Oct 6, the four duty-free shops in Sanya sold 829-million-yuan ($114-million) worth of duty-free goods and attracted 126,751 shoppers.

As tourists flocked to the city, hotel and homestay consumption surged. The city's commercial accommodation facilities welcomed 385,200 overnight guests.

Yacht tourism was particularly popular during the holiday, and tourists enjoyed tasting local delicacies.

During the holiday period, Sanya Phoenix International Airport accommodated 2,953 flights with a total passenger throughput of 505,800, a 17.93-percent and 17.38-percent increase, respectively, compared to 2019.

During the holiday, Sanya increased the supply of cultural and tourism products and encouraged tourism attractions and rural tourism sites to hold a series of consumer promotion activities.
