Japan's Omron Healthcare devoted to developing in China

More investment, bigger factories and deeper cooperation here in the Chinese market are testament of Japan's Omron Healthcare's firm determination in developing in China despite the complex world economic and geopolitical situations, said its top executive at the ongoing China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

Liu Jingliang, vice-president of Omron Healthcare China, said that the Chinese market has occupied several "most" spots among the company's overall global markets.

"China is the biggest market for the company and has accounted for 30 percent of total global sales. With the highest number of staff among Omron's overseas market, it is also the most potential for a market for Omron globally," Liu said.

Liu said that the company established a research and development and production base in Dalian, China in 1993 and decades of R&D efforts have made the base one of the world's top production lines.

Taking electronic blood pressure monitor products as an example, Liu said that the annual production number has exceeded 10 million units.

"Thus, we are optimistic about China's market prospects in the long term and will continue to build an operation and management ecosystem integrating R&D, design, production, sales and service here, based on the health management needs of Chinese consumers," he added.

The country put safeguarding people's health in a strategic position in China's Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035.

"It has become a great opportunity for Omron to participate in the vigorous development of the nation's health industry, especially smart medical care in the consumer market," he said.

Liu pointed out that, over the past decades, the company has also striven to transform from a provider of medical equipment to a leading brand that is able to offer overall solution on chronic disease management and integrates products and digitalization.

"This is in line with our vision of helping Chinese customers in prevention of diseases or our 'going for zero' strategy, to make the world healthier," he added.

Since 2019, the Japanese company has launched MMC, or metabolic management centers, a kind of health convenience store that mainly help patients with daily chronic disease screening services, such as high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and pulmonary ailments.

By now, Omron has reached cooperation with 91 chain pharmacies across 28 provinces and municipalities to operate MMC health convenience stores across the country, which have benefited 250,000 people across the country.

"We aim to increase MMC chain pharmacies to 1,000 by 2027, a further move showing our determination in developing in China," he added.
