Exports a sign of Yutong's expertise

Chinese leading bus manufacturer Yutong has accelerated its efforts to export products, demonstrating the prowess of made-in-China products on the international stage.

A total of 250 Yutong E12 electric buses were shipped to Greece recently, marking the country's first major purchase of new energy buses and Yutong's largest order in Europe.

These buses are set to commence operations in the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki from the end of April, contributing to green public transportation in the country.

"The buses exported to Greece are custom-designed for the high-end overseas market, featuring innovative applications and cutting-edge advancements, ensuring internationally leading quality and performance," said a spokesperson of Yutong.

Meanwhile, a vessel carrying 214 Yutong new energy buses arrived Chile earlier this month. The vehicles are scheduled to begin operation in Santiago's public transport system by the end of February.

This batch of orders sets a record for the largest single delivery of new energy buses by Yutong in the Chilean and even Latin American markets.

The buses delivered to Chile are built on Yutong's independently developed YEA platform, which showcases internationally leading energy consumption control, range capability and reliability.

To better meet customer requirements and maximize operational value, Yutong has customized the application of innovative technologies based on local conditions, operational environments and usage patterns.

The bus manufacturer made its entry into Chile in 2005 and its new energy products have gained widespread acceptance in the country, covering public transportation, municipal services and mining trucks.

The company has long seized opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative. And these buses are to enhance the local public transportation, injecting new momentum into the sector's sustainable development, the spokesperson said.

In 2023, Yutong reported the sales of 45,378 commercial vehicles, up 20 percent year-on-year. Yutong bus exports reached 10,165 units, marking a 78.87 percent year-on-year growth.

Xu Haidong, vice-chief engineer of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said Chinese companies are competitive globally in terms of new energy vehicles, as China has an early-mover advantage in the segment and the country's huge market has stimulated companies to improve their products.

The country's vehicle exports jumped 47.4 percent year-on-year in January, totaling 443,000 units, according to the CAAM.

Among them, the exports of commercial vehicles rose 46.9 percent from the same period of 2023 to 74,000 units.

The association estimates that vehicle exports will grow to 5.5 million this year.
