Shanghai is set to endure a prolonged spell of rainy and cloudy weather in the coming days, with another typhoon expected to make landfall in the coastal areas of the city's neighboring Zhejiang province.

As residents grapple with the aftermath of Typhoon Bebinca, which recently battered the region, the arrival of Typhoon Pulasan poses additional challenges and concerns for the city's weather-weary populace.

According to the National Meteorological Center, Typhoon Pulasan, the 14th typhoon of the year, took shape on the night of Sept 15 and is currently tracking in a northwestern direction at a speed of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour, gradually edging closer to the East China Sea. The aftermath of Typhoon Bebinca continues to cast a shadow over Shanghai, following its devastating impact on Pudong's Lin-gang Special Area at 7:30 am on Sept 16. Regarded as the strongest typhoon to strike Shanghai since 1949, the storm unleashed gusty winds reaching level 12 in the central urban area, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Since Sept 15, Shanghai has been buffeted by strong winds and persistent rainfall, resulting in significant accumulations across various districts. The highest recorded cumulative rainfall was 220.5 millimeters, which occurred on Yongfeng Street in Songjiang district, while Fengcheng Town in Fengxian district recorded a maximum hourly rainfall of 87.5 millimeters.

As the city navigates this trying period of inclement weather and heightened danger, authorities are closely monitoring the progression of Typhoon Pulasan and coordinating response efforts to safeguard the well-being of residents and minimize the potential impact of the approaching storm.
