CPPCC on new journey to help realize national rejuvenation

The 75th anniversary of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference is a good opportunity for the country's political advisory body to draw on its historical experience to strengthen its political advisory role and its participation in State affairs so it can make bigger contributions to the country's development and national rejuvenation.

The Communist Party of China-led multiparty consultative system and the people's congress system are the fundamental elements of China's political system and the primary means of advancing whole-process people's democracy. It is a political system led by the Party with the participation of other political parties, non-political organizations and individuals, and members of all ethnic groups.

Therefore, as President Xi Jinping said on Friday at a meeting in Beijing to observe the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the CPPCC, the political consultative body's salient political advantage should be given full play in developing whole-process people's democracy.

In the face of increasing global uncertainties and risks, the country's efforts to further deepen reform to advance Chinese modernization need intellectual support, which it can draw from the collective wisdom of the people, especially the professionals and the vanguard of the people.

The CPPCC committees at different levels can advance extensive, multilevel and institutionalized consultative democracy, while adopting a coordinated approach to promoting consultation by political parties, people's congresses, government departments, people's organizations, communities and social organizations. And the CPPCC National Committee can develop complete procedures and practices to ensure the people's broad, continuous and intensive participation in day-to-day political activities.

There is also a need for the CPPCC National Committee to improve the various institutional consultative platforms to promote the extensive, multilevel and institutionalized development of consultative democracy. In doing so, the CPPCC can better rally people's support and pool their strengths to help advance Chinese modernization and realize national rejuvenation.

Besides, the CPPCC should perform the role of an organization of the united front under the leadership of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

To achieve that, the CPPCC needs to ensure its members abide by rules and act with moral integrity, develop greater insight into national affairs, and gain a better understanding of the needs and wishes of the people as well as the CPPCC's work.

And to help the country to intensify its efforts to deepen reform and broaden opening-up, the CPPCC should strengthen its capability for developing its political acumen, conducting research and connecting with the people.

This year, which also marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, is crucial for fulfilling the goals of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). So while fulfilling its duties in the new era, the CPPCC should also play its due role of building and consolidating the broadest, most patriotic united front, expanding common ground, helping build a strong nation, making new breakthroughs in key areas, advancing Chinese modernization and realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
