Beijing's Miyun district becomes key destination for fish lovers

World Food Day, observed on October 16 since 1981, serves as a platform to raise awareness and drive actions aimed at eradicating hunger and ensuring food security for all.

In recent years, China has been exploring alternative protein and carbohydrate sources to diversify its food options. The Miyun Reservoir in Beijing has emerged as a noteworthy model worth studying.

Initially built in 1958 to control floods, this expansive reservoir, spanning 188 square kilometers in Beijing's hilly Miyun district, has been a vital water source for drinking and irrigation purposes.

During the 1960s, local authorities introduced various fish species, including numerous types of carp, into the reservoir to combat algal blooms.
Miyun has ramped up its releases of fish fry in recent years to enhance production.

Today, tourists flock to the area to relish locally sourced fish and experience a peaceful escape from the bustling city life of Beijing.
