At a recent meeting held in Shanghai's Minhang district, the China Automotive Chip Industry Innovation Strategic Alliance revealed a significant milestone in the city's automotive industry.

According to statistics released at the meeting, Shanghai produced over 1.11 million new energy vehicles in the first 11 months of this year, showcasing the city's commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.

From January to November, Shanghai's overall car production reached 1.63 million units, accounting for 6 percent of the nation's total automotive output. The city's NEV production alone accounted for 13.2 percent of the country's total, highlighting Shanghai's pivotal role in the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles.

During the meeting, an alliance dedicated to automotive integrated circuits was established to accelerate innovation within the automotive chip industry. This move aligns with Shanghai's broader efforts to bolster technological advancements in the automotive sector. Notably, the scale of Shanghai's integrated circuit industry has surged to 315.5 billion yuan ($43.22 billion) in the first 11 months of this year, marking a substantial 20 percent year-on-year growth.

Shanghai has been at the forefront of automotive chip research and development, implementing supportive policies and establishing key platforms such as engineering centers, test facilities, and verification laboratories. These initiatives have played a significant role in fostering collaboration among industry players, leading to the development of nearly 40 types of automotive chips by around 30 enterprises.
