Railway linking China's west and south in the works

The Western Land-Sea New Corridor — a railway linking western China to South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, is growing to be a crucial logistics and economic pathway linking China's western regions with the global arena, a national political advisor said on Friday.

Zhang Shuxin, deputy general manager of Guangxi-based Beibu Gulf Port Group, also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said at the sidelines of the ongoing two sessions that this essential logistics and economic conduit connecting China's western regions with the world has successfully transported over 1,100 types of goods to more than 500 ports across 127 countries and regions.

Zhang also noted that by 2024, the export of automobiles and associated components through the Western Land-Sea New Corridor had reached 35,000 twenty-foot equivalent units, marking a 25 percent year-on-year increase.

Noteworthy products such as goji berries from Ningxia Hui autonomous region, Chongqing's lemons, and Guangxi's sugar have successfully traversed this corridor, venturing from the mountains to the sea and beyond into the global marketplace, he said.
