Shanghai AIA Grand Theatre unveils colorful schedule for 2025
From the latest revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Sunset Blvd starring Sarah Brightman to the Russian production of the urban comedy First Date and Chinese play The Murder in Kairoutei, Shanghai AIA Grand Theatre announced a colorful new performance plan of 2025.
On March 27, the theater detailed altogether 64 performances of 30 productions for this year. Entitled Boundless, the new 2025 season consists of four chapters.
Shown from April 18 to 27, Sunset Blvd is the first big international production in the first chapter, followed by the Russian musical First Date on Sept 11 to 14, and The Lord of the Rings by the multi-award-winning international musical producer Kevin Wallace from Oct 8 to 11.
The second chapter features Chinese theater productions, including musicals, dance drama, and cross-talk shows. The Murder in the Kairoutei, for example, was adapted by Chinese playwrights Zhao Miao and Tang Xiawa from the novel of the same title by Japanese best-selling criminal writer Keigo Higashino. It will be shown on May 17.
The third chapter consists of a series of concerts by artists from home and abroad, and the fourth chapter features traditional Chinese folk operas.
