Chongqing aims to become intelligent connected NEV hub

Chongqing is making impressive progress in positioning itself as a key player in the intelligent connected new energy vehicle (NEV) sector, as highlighted in the latest development report from the city's Liangjiang New Area. 

According to the report, Chongqing's NEV production now accounts for 11.3 percent of the national total, with its research and development investment intensity surpassing the national average by 1.3 percentage points. 

In 2024, the city's NEV industry experienced substantial growth, achieving a production volume of 953,200 units, a remarkable 90.5 percent increase from the previous year. Liangjiang alone produced over 550,000 units, constituting 58 percent of Chongqing's total NEV output. 

The city has developed a robust manufacturing base, featuring 543 component companies and 19 complete vehicle enterprises. These entities collaborate to cover three major component systems, 12 major assemblies, and 56 parts.

Chongqing also offers a wide range of application scenarios, with demonstration zones that provide varied testing environments. This establishes the city as a certification hub for NEV brands' intelligent driving capabilities. 

China's NEV market is rapidly expanding, with sales reaching 12.87 million units in 2024. By 2035, annual sales are projected to exceed 38 million units, with more than 200 million NEVs on the road.
