No further talks if Britain wants 'zero uranium enrichment' in Iran: FM

TEHRAN - Tehran will have nothing to discuss with Britain on the nuclear issue if the latter wants "zero uranium enrichment" in Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote Wednesday on social media platform X.

He made the remarks in response to comments by British Ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson on Tuesday that Britain strongly backs Washington's "initiative in negotiating away these enrichment and related facilities in Iran".

Iran has maintained "multilateral engagement" with Britain and other European signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal in good faith, "even as the US continues to show no interest in getting them involved in the ongoing negotiation process," Araghchi wrote.

He reiterated during an ongoing trip to Oman that Iran will end all talks with Europe if the latter's position is "zero enrichment", according to a report by Iran's official news agency IRNA.

Iran does not compromise with anyone on the issue of uranium enrichment on its soil, he said, adding that the date and venue of the sixth round of Iran-US talks will probably be determined within the next few days.

Iran and the United States held five rounds of Oman-mediated indirect talks starting from April on Tehran's nuclear program and the lifting of US sanctions, three of which in Oman's Muscat and two in Rome.

In recent days, Washington has repeatedly demanded that Iran completely cease uranium enrichment, a request firmly rejected by Tehran.

Meanwhile, Iran and three European countries - France, Germany, and Britain, collectively known as the E3 - have held several rounds of talks covering Tehran's nuclear program and the removal of sanctions, among other issues.
