Cyberspace body handles over 3,500 violations involving AI-related products

The Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission said on Friday that it has dealt with over 3,500 violations involving artificial intelligence-related products, including applications and intelligent entities, since launching the special campaign targeting AI technology abuse in April.

Furthermore, the office has cleaned up more than 960,000 pieces of illegal and irregular information and handled over 3,700 accounts, the department stated in a release.

The focus of this campaign is primarily on addressing the misuse of AI technology, such as deepfake and voice synthesis that infringe on public rights, as well as the lack of proper labeling in AI-generated content that misleads the public.

Thus, the office has been urging key website platforms to enhance their technical security measures and expedite the implementation of content labeling for synthetic content.

The first phase of the campaign has made positive progress since its launch in April, according to the release.

The release cited examples of local cyberspace administrations and online platforms across the country cracking down on AI-related misconduct.

The Zhejiang provincial cyberspace administration has intensified supervision over local AI applications and website platforms. Various local platforms have intercepted and cleared more than 25.5 million pieces of illegal and irregular information and queries.

The Beijing municipal cyberspace administration has established a reporting channel for reporting AI technology abuse and has handled 26 related reports.

In terms of cleaning up illegal AI product tutorials and goods, the major social media platform Sina Weibo has processed over 4,800 pieces of irregular content through strategic identification, user reports, and other channels.
