Protected bird Chinese pond-heron spotted in Chongqing
Since 2019, the Chongqing Liangping Wetland Conservation Center has developed an advanced AI-based bird monitoring system with 11 high-definition cameras and powerful computational capabilities. This system can analyze up to 30 real-time images per second, achieving a 99 percent accuracy rate in identifying bird species by comparing them with a database of over 2,000 species.
Yu Xianhuai, a senior engineer at the center, has dedicated six years to wetland protection at the park, conducting daily patrols and documenting bird species through photography.
Over the past few years, Liangping has undertaken more than 20 ecological restoration projects, including wetland rehabilitation, migration programs, and aquatic vegetation cultivation, leading to improved water quality and enhanced biodiversity in the region.
