Creative splash: Marie's first pop-up lands in Shanghai
Shanghai has welcomed the first brick-and-mortar pop-up from Marie, a century-old art materials brand founded in 1919.
Now open at Livat Shanghai, the event blends color exploration, eco-friendly concepts, and immersive interaction to create a zero-carbon art playground built entirely from recyclable honeycomb cardboard.
Known for its wide range of paints and art supplies, Marie has been providing creative tools to artists, designers, and educators for more than a century. The brand aims to bring art into everyday life, inspiring creativity while promoting sustainable practices.
The pop-up features eight themed experience zones, each offering a different way to engage with art:
- Free painting zone: Visitors can pick up brushes and add their own strokes to a giant canvas, contributing to a collective abstract masterpiece.
- Plaster bear zone: A favorite among children, where young artists transform plain plaster bears into colorful, playful companions.
- Face painting zone: Professional artists use Marie's safe, non-toxic paints to turn faces into living artworks.
- Recycled creations: Discarded materials and glass bottles are given new life through paint in the "waste art zone" and the "bottle upcycling zone".
- Corrugated printmaking zone: Traditional printmaking techniques meet modern pigments in a hands-on experience.
- Nail art zone: Fingertips become miniature canvases, decorated with flowing patterns and vivid hues.
- AI color zone: Technology meets tradition as AI reinterprets classic Chinese colors for the digital age.
Alongside the interactive zones, shoppers can take advantage of special promotions. A single purchase of 200 yuan (about $27.93) or more earns a 20 percent discount on all items, while receipts from the pop-up also unlock additional offers with partner stores.
