Marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Lo Chin-chu, a descendant of Dongjiang Column soldiers, told China Daily about the vital role Hong Kong residents played in supporting the resistance. After Hong Kong was occupied, his parents, Lo Kwong-chi and Cai Songying, joined the Hong Kong Independent Battalion of the Dongjiang Column and helped organize residents in Hong Kong's New Territories to assist guerrilla fighters. It was the united struggle of these guerrilla soldiers and the local people that ultimately proved essential to achieving victory.
