The Cuban Guest Country Forum was held at the 2025 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum on Sept 27 in Taiyuan, Shanxi province. Themed "Energy Transition and Climate Action: Promoting Sustainable Development through Science, Innovation, and Communication", the forum serves as a platform for China and Cuba to explore green development together.

"Cuba's energy transition is significantly bolstered by the unconditional support of China," said Cuban Ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco Silva, in his speech at the event. Amid economic challenges and fluctuating international oil prices, Cuba is vigorously advancing its "National Power System Recovery Plan", with China's technological and financial support playing a crucial role.

Shanxi's energy companies, with their expertise in photovoltaics and energy storage, align well with Cuba's energy needs. Currently, Shanxi has developed a robust industrial system centered on coal, electricity, and non-ferrous metals, alongside strategic emerging industries like high-end equipment, new materials, biotechnology, and energy conservation.

"Shanxi's experience in clean utilization of traditional energy and new energy development is highly instructive for Cuba," said Armando Rodríguez Batista, Cuba's minister of science, technology and the environment. He expressed hope for strengthened cooperation with Shanxi in low-carbon development, biotechnology, energy, and traditional industries, aiming to carry out more green projects in Cuba.

Henry Ricardo Mora, science and technology counsellor at the Cuban Embassy in China, announced that the China-Cuba Joint Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation will soon launch its third project call, focusing on energy transition and environmental projects. "We welcome Shanxi universities and enterprises to join and co-create a green technology innovation alliance."

This forum stands as a testament to Sino-Cuban friendship, injecting new momentum into their cooperation in energy transition and green development, and paving the way for a broader future in green collaboration.
