Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has declared that Pakistan is transitioning from economic stabilisation to sustained growth, emphasising progress on economic, diplomatic, and defence fronts.
Addressing overseas Pakistanis at the Pakistan High Commission in London, the premier noted that the government’s hard work and team effort had averted economic default, reduced inflation to 5% from 30%, and cut interest rates to 11% from 22%. He said Pakistan now enjoys renewed global respect and is well-positioned for development.
Shehbaz underscored that unity, sincerity, and persistence were essential to overcoming challenges. He recalled Pakistan’s past military victories and said that in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), he had effectively raised the voices of the Kashmiri and Palestinian people.
On Gaza, he condemned the killing of 64,000 Palestinians, including women and children, and expressed hope that ongoing Arab-Islamic engagement with the United States would yield results. The prime minister also described his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington as “constructive and cordial,” calling it a step forward for bilateral ties.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar highlighted that during the UNGA, Pakistan’s leadership held around two dozen engagements, firmly presenting the issues of Kashmir, Palestine, and Gaza before the international community. He credited Shehbaz Sharif with saving Pakistan from default in 2022 and restoring economic stability, adding that the world has begun to recognise Pakistan’s recovery.
Overseas Pakistanis present at the event praised the prime minister’s UNGA address, saying it had amplified Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and Palestine globally. They called his speech one of the most impactful and widely followed at the international forum.
