Shanghai inaugurates first highway supercharging station

East China's metropolis, Shanghai, has officially launched its first highway intelligent supercharging station at the Fengjing service area along the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway, ahead of the National Day holiday, according to State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Co.

As a key milestone in the city's efforts to seek low-carbon transportation, the supercharging station aims to offer high efficiency, convenience and an enhanced charging experience for new energy vehicle owners during holidays and long-distance travels.

With the capacity to supercharge 16 new energy vehicles simultaneously, the station complements the existing 28 charging piles, substantially increasing the service area's charging supply.

With a maximum power load of 640 kilowatts, the ultra-fast charging equipment could raise charging efficiency by more than five times in comparison to conventional facilities, which could greatly shorten new energy vehicles' recharging time from at least half an hour to a few minutes.

"The daily average number of charges and the amount of electricity charged at Shanghai's Fengjing service area exceeded 1,000 vehicles during holidays in the past two years, about ten times the usual volume," said Wang Lihui, head of marketing with State Grid Shanghai Jinshan.

According to Wang, the launch of the supercharging station before the National Day holiday and Mid-Autumn Festival is an effort to meet the anticipated surge in charging demand, ensuring a safer and smoother journey for electric vehicle owners.
