As the 15th National Games approach, the mascots Xiyangyang and Lerongrong have gone viral online for their cute, chickenlike appearance. In fact, they are based on Chinese white dolphins living in the Pearl River Estuary near the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. In an interview with Liu Pingyun, head of the design team, he welcomed netizens' use of simple, popular language to interpret the mascots, hoping it would help spread their message more widely.
