China's exhibitors at e-commerce expo in Jakarta generate promising prospects

Government officials, business leaders and entrepreneurs from China and Indonesia are seeing broader prospects for stronger economic and business cooperation between the two countries, notably with the widening usage of e-commerce technologies, according to the China International E-Commerce Industry Expo 2025 in Jakarta.

With Indonesia now pushing for strengthening its digital economy to achieve higher economic growth, local entrepreneurs could be transforming new ideas acquired from the expo into local products, not only for domestic consumption but also for the global market, speakers said at the three-day expo with its opening ceremony on Oct 29.

The expo brought together industry leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs to explore the latest trends and technologies in the e-commerce sector.

Displayed in the exhibition halls at the expo in Central Jakarta are a long list of products mainly from China, including consumer electronics and appliances, fresh solutions for cold chain innovation, agricultural machinery and techniques, machinery and electronic solutions, and new energy solutions.

Products from Indonesian and other Southeast Asian countries are also on display.

Xiong Canxin, director of the Department of Trade and Investment Promotion at China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Commercial Sub-Council, said the expo provides a common gate for China and Indonesia for opening global market for their products.

More than 400 Chinese companies are displaying their products in the expo, and those exhibitors come from provinces like Hunan, Zhejiang, Henan, Shandong, Guangdong and Fujian.

Li Feng, chief representative of CCPIT Representative Office in Indonesia, said digital economy and cross-border e-commerce have become new highlights of cooperation between China and Indonesia.

"The relations open up unprecedented development space for small and medium-sized enterprises," Li Feng said. He said the Indonesian e-commerce market is expected to reach $9.5 billion in 2025 and add $19.5 billion in value by 2030, with an annual compound growth rate of about 15 percent.

Chinese e-commerce companies currently have more than 15 million active users in Indonesia, covering consumer electronics, household products, daily necessities, department stores, agricultural products, and many others, Li said.

Ahmad Ridha Sabana, special envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia for MSMEs, Creative Economy and Digital, said Indonesia is striving to become co-creator and co-innovator in the global digital ecosystem and that in this undertaking the country needs to build partnership with China.

"China has proven itself a pioneer in digital innovation and platforms, and has successfully connected its companies to the global market and maximized its economic growth," Ahmad said.
