Hong Kong charity signs diplomatic talent deal with Beijing university
A Hong Kong-founded charity, the GX Foundation, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Beijing-based China Foreign Affairs University to cooperate on civilian diplomacy and the development of international talent.
Friday's signing ceremony at the university in Beijing was witnessed by Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the GX Foundation, and Wang Shiting, Party secretary of the China Foreign Affairs University.
The MoU was signed by Chan Ying-yang, CEO of the GX Foundation, and Wang Fan, the president of the China Foreign Affairs University, on behalf of both parties.
The collaboration aims to combine the GX Foundation's practical experience in international humanitarian aid and public health with the China Foreign Affairs University's professional expertise in training people for careers in diplomacy and global affairs.
The two parties will work together to encourage professionals with an international perspective and practical skills to engage in global humanitarian aid efforts, thereby promoting the sustainable development of civilian diplomacy.
In a speech after the ceremony, Leung shared the foundation's experiences and his insights into civilian foreign aid initiatives with nearly 300 faculty members, students and guests at the university.
Wang said he hoped to see fruitful outcomes from the agreement, noting that civilian foreign aid is a crucial part of China's overall foreign affairs strategy.
Civilian foreign aid has a unique and irreplaceable role in enhancing international friendship, promoting mutual development and showcasing China's image as a responsible major power, he added.
